The Spanish Fernando Hierro has left his position as sports director of Chivas de Guadalajara, as reported by the club this Wednesday.

“The Guadalajara Club informs that Fernando Hierro spoke with the board to inform them of his decision to take another professional opportunity outside the country, which is why as of today he stops providing his services as sports director,” the club reported in a press release. .

During his year and a half at the helm, Hierro managed to stabilize the team and obtain positive results in Liga MX. Under his management, Chivas qualified directly to the Liguilla in the three tournaments it played.

In Clausura 2023, Hierro led the team to the championship final, the first for Chivas since 2017. Although they failed to lift the title after losing to Tigres UANL, the team’s performance was outstanding.

As for international tournaments, the results were not so favorable. In this year’s Champions Cup, Chivas was eliminated in the round of 16 by archrival América.

The club also highlighted that “the Guadalajara team was one of the 4 teams with the highest total score of the Apertura 2024-Clausura 2024 cycle, thereby ensuring its participation in the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup. The Quarry project was strengthened “Rojiblanca, because in this year and a half the Under 18, Under 23 and Tapatío categories were champions.”

“In each decision, Fernando showed total commitment to our vision of inspiring Mexico every day and above all, with the mission of constantly projecting the work done in the Rojiblanca Quarry to round out the comprehensive training of our youngest players, since Players such as Raúl Rangel, Leo Sepúlveda, Mateo Chávez, Yael Padilla, Jesús Brígido, Raúl Martínez and Armando González, to mention the most advanced, were given projection to the First Team,” the Mexican club noted on its website.
