Brett R. Gallaway, attorney for NFL Washington Commanders kicker Brandon McManus, assured that the accusation of sexual assault made by two women against the player seeks to launch a smear campaign.

“They are fictitious accusations. They are part of a campaign to smear and disparage a talented and respected NFL player. We intend to aggressively defend Brandon’s integrity, clear his name by showing what these claims are; an extortion attempt,” the lawyer asserted.

The incident for which the player is accused occurred on September 28 of last year, when McManus belonged to the Jacksonville Jaguars. According to the version of the two women, the event occurred while the team was traveling to London to face the Atlanta Falcons on October 1.

On the way, the players drank alcoholic beverages and according to the women, they began to disrespect the spaces assigned to women. In this sense, they accuse McManus of rubbing against them and trying to kiss them, for which they requested that he be prosecuted and a million dollars in compensation.

The alleged victims claim that after what happened they experienced severe mental anguish, anxiety, psychological and emotional anguish.

In response to the complaint, the lawyer for these women, Tony Buzbee, stated that both women, before filing the complaint, looked for another way to settle things and found no response from the player.

“We presented the case on Friday, but before that we tried, without success, to resolve the matter without the need for litigation. Our efforts were met with arrogance, ignorance and stupidity (…) The accusations in this lawsuit against Brandon McManus are very serious,” Buzbee stressed.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time that Buzbee defends women who are victims of this type of situation. Previously, he participated as an attorney in the sexual abuse case against quarterback Deshaun Watson.
