Former President Donald Trump, who is accused of falsifying documents to silence a porn actress and protect his presidential run in 2016, said minutes after the jury began deliberating in his case that not even Mother Teresa could prevail in his “rigged ” criminal trial.

“Mother Teresa could not beat these charges. These charges are rigged. The whole country is a mess, between borders and fake elections, and you have a trial like this where the judge is so conflicted that he can’t breathe,” Trump told reporters outside Manhattan Criminal Court.

“That is a misfortune. And i mean it. Mother Teresa could not overcome these accusations. But we’ll see. We will see how we do it,” she added, as reported by The Hill.

However, lowering expectations regarding the outcome of the trial could be part of a strategy by the Trump team. According to the aforementioned media, strategists said that it is beneficial for the former president to create a narrative that the case is against him, lowering the bar in case he is found guilty or allowing him to declare victory against a “rigged” system in case of that he be declared innocent.

The virtual Republican presidential candidate also said, once again, that this case is a witch hunt to prevent him from winning the elections and blamed President Joe Biden for electoral interference.

However, he said that President Biden is not “smart enough” to really be behind the case against him, suggesting that someone else was pulling the strings, according to the EFE news agency.

Respond to De Niro

He also criticized Robert de Niro, an actor who yesterday, during the final arguments, gave a speech in front of the court to support the Democrat’s presidential campaign, in which he said that Trump wants to “destroy” New York, and the former president stressed today that the event was boycotted by his followers.

Trump faces 34 felony charges.

The former president must remain in the New York court during the deliberations, said Judge Juan Merchán. Today the jury will deliberate in a room where they will not have access to their phones.

If at least one of the members does not agree, Judge Juan M. Merchan will ask the twelve members to continue deliberating until reaching a joint decision, and in the worst case – of lack of consensus – he may declare everything or everything null and void. part of the trial.

Trump has complained that his attendance at the trial has prevented him from campaigning.

“So I’m going to stay here,” he said Wednesday, according to The Hill. “That’s five weeks and five weeks in which I have essentially not campaigned, although in the last few weeks I got a big lead in the polls. Something is happening, because I think the people of this country see that this is a rigged agreement.”
