Kamala Harris will address the US Air Force Academy graduation this Thursday in Colorado, the ceremony that launches cadets into the Air Force or Space Force. The vice president last year became the first woman to give a speech at West Point’s graduation ceremony.
The vice president has already arrived in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she will conclude with the graduates so they can throw their caps in the air, while the US Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, the Thunderbird, speeds overhead, reported AP.
“I just landed in Colorado Springs. I am looking forward to heading to the United States Air Force Academy graduation tomorrow morning,” the vice president said on her X her account.
First woman to give a speech
Last year, the vice president gave a keynote address at West Point’s graduation ceremony, becoming the first woman to address graduates in the military academy’s 221-year history, the AP noted.
Kamala Harris said on that occasion that when the cadets complete their basic officer training and meet the first platoon they will lead, other soldiers of younger generations will look them in the eye for guidance.
“They are ready to lead them,” Harris said in May 2023. “They have graduated from the nation’s preeminent leadership institution.”
President Joe Biden spoke to graduates last year, thanking them for choosing “service over self” and noting the challenges facing the country and the world, from the Russian invasion of Ukraine to the United States’ rivalry with China.
