In recent years, the tipping culture has been spreading to situations that did not previously require them, which has generated controversy and confusion among consumers.
For that matter, here are five places where you shouldn’t feel obligated to tip.
1. The buffet
According to the Wealthy Nickel portal, there are people who have begun to ask them to leave tips when registering at a buffet, with a default percentage of 20%, which must be adjusted manually if you want to pay less or nothing.
However, you should know that you normally shouldn’t pay a tip here, since you serve yourself.
2. Home delivery of packages
Many people are surprised and outraged to see that some of their neighbors have started tipping package delivery services. From the Amazon driver to the UPS driver.
However, this is not something that workers expect.
3. Buy online
Some people have shared that when shopping online, some online stores charge them a tip when processing the order.
4. Tip on fast food
In Las Vegas, Nevada, one resident expressed surprise that the tipping culture had spread to local fast food restaurants.
“One of my pet peeves here in Las Vegas is that tip jars are popping up everywhere, including fast food restaurants!” she said, according to Wealthy Nickel.
5. Tip in retail stores
According to the same site, several customers have reported seeing signs in stores in shopping centers asking them to tip their employees.
From these stores’ perspective, if one of their employees helps someone choose the perfect pair of jeans, they should receive a tip. However, this has generated discontent among many consumers.
