The New York Mets are not having a good time in the current 2024 Major League season. The ninth New York team has lost eight of the last 10 games, including two sweeps against the Cleveland Guardians and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Recently the team gave terrible news that could further affect its situation. And the team’s closer, Edwin Díaz, was placed on the 15-day injured list after suffering an impingement in his right shoulder.
“I felt good,” Díaz said in statements to the press this Wednesday. “On Sunday I felt a little tense and then on Monday the same thing, but I was able to continue catching and throwing the ball and my ball came out very well, but yesterday (Tuesday) I felt more than usual and today the same, so I spoke to to them,” explained the talented pitcher.
For now, it is not known exactly how long Díaz will be out of the field. But it does not seem to be a serious injury, since neither Mendoza nor the player himself seemed concerned about the news and his move to the injured list seems to be more as a precaution.
Díaz and his failures this season
Although the Mets are not performing well so far this season. Edwin Díaz is a clear reflection of the bad moment that the New York franchise is going through.
And Díaz even lost his place as closer for the New York Mets. Well, a couple of weeks ago he wasted three save chances in a row.
The experienced closer’s numbers have not been the best this year. A high ERA of 5.40 with just five saves in 11 opportunities demonstrate the problems that the Puerto Rican has been having in the ninth inning.
For now the Mets will begin a new series against the Arizona D-Backs in which they will not have Díaz. In his place they called up left-handed reliever Josh Walker from Triple A.
The metropolitan team needs to start winning, because with its negative record of 22-33 it is beginning to move further and further away not only from the fight for the leadership of the East Division of the National League, but also for the wild card to enter the playoffs .
