The Mississippi Attorney General’s Office announced that an Amory School District teacher has been sentenced following multiple charges of child sexual exploitation against him and must pay more than $120,000 in restitution to crime victims.
U.S. District Judge Debra M. Brown sentenced Toshemie Wilson, 48, of Okolona to 192 years in prison following her conviction on charges of sexual exploitation of a child. Wilson was ordered to pay $123,353.34 in restitution to crime victims and a $5,000 traffic assessment.
In a statement, the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office reported that in December 2023, a Greenville jury found Toshemie Wilson guilty of eight counts of sexual exploitation of children due to his conduct while he was a teacher for the Mississippi School District. Love and.
They produced videos and images of child sexual abuse
Testimony at trial revealed that the accused professor used his position as an advisor to the student group Technology Students of America (TSA) to groom students to eventually produce videos and images of child sexual abuse in exchange for money and drugs.
Seven witnesses said Toshemie Wilson approached students and asked them to make masturbation videos for pay, this happened between 2005 and 2014. The witnesses identified several locations where Wilson asked them to make the videos.
They recorded videos on school trips
Among them, was the school bathroom and an office space he rented. Several of the witnesses testified that they were induced to record videos while on out-of-town school trips with the TSA, the prosecutor’s office shared.
The investigation began when a former student reported abuse by Wilson to a counselor, who reported the statement to police.
“Parents and children should be able to trust teachers, and Toshemie Wilson profoundly betrayed that trust and deserves every hour of every day she spends in prison,” said U.S. Attorney Clay Joyner.
“I can’t say enough about the bravery of the victims who came forward. “Wilson is now exactly where he belongs,” he added in the document.
Several agencies investigated the case
Following a sentencing hearing in Greenville, U.S. District Judge Debra M. Brown sentenced Wilson to 192 years in prison.
The investigation into this case was a joint effort by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office and multiple state and local law enforcement agencies, the statement said.
“Predators who seek to exploit the children in their care will not go unpunished,” said Attorney General Lynn Fitch. “The sentence serves as a reminder that those who abuse positions of power will be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible.”
