Ángel Di María finished his contract with Benfica in Portugal and as of July 1 he will be a free agent so he will be able to negotiate his signing with any team. One of those interested in signing the Argentine is Rosario Central, a club from his hometown and where he trained as a footballer.

However, it seems that the possible arrival of “El Fideo” to Rosario could be becoming increasingly complicated. And the Argentine city has been immersed in problems of violence by armed drug trafficking gangs for a couple of years.

And these violent groups have threatened Di María with his return to Rosario. The most recent occurred this Wednesday in the south of the city when two hooded men riding a motorcycle shot at a service station.

At the scene of the incident, a note was found addressed to the world champion soccer player with Argentina in 2022. It said “We are waiting for you Di María los Rosarinos.”

Since Di María showed his interest in returning to Argentine football with Rosario Central, these types of threats have constantly appeared in the city.

One of the most serious occurred last March when they left a similar threat, but at the door of the 36-year-old player’s family home.

“Tell your son Ángel not to return to Rosario again because if not we will screw him up by killing a family member. Not even Maximiliano Pullaro (governor of Santa Fe) is going to save you. We don’t throw away pieces of paper. “We throw lead and dead people,” was the forceful letter they left for the footballer’s relatives.

Reports from ESPN had reported a few days ago that before these threats Di María had even coordinated the school where his daughters would study in Rosario. Which shows the great interest of the footballer in playing in his hometown.

However, the most recent threats complicate Di María’s decision. And although even Argentina’s security minister, Patricia Bullrich, had called on the footballer and his family that everything would be fine, it seems that Fideo’s return to Rosario is getting further and further away.

On the other hand, Di María has other offers that seem to be a little more attractive. The one that is stepping the hardest, and that according to the Argentine press everything is almost agreed upon, is Inter Miami where he would reunite with Lionel Messi.
