A weekend of busier than normal traffic is shaping up in New York as there will be several closures on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE) due to repairs.
The city’s Department of Transportation (DOT) announced that the closures would be from 2 a.m. Saturday, June 1 to 4 a.m. Monday, June 3. Drivers are advised to avoid the BQE during that time.
Detours will be heavily signed and variable message signs (VMS) in Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan. Work will focus on new concrete and added reinforcing steel bars and sections of the BQE near Clark St and Grace Court, and are expected to be the final repairs of the year, he summarized. ABCNews.
The Queens-bound BQE will be completely closed from Atlantic Av to Sands St and there will be additional travel restrictions. For example, left turns on Atlantic Av heading east toward Hicks St will be prohibited (except for buses); as well as turn left on Hicks St heading north towards Atlantic Av. For more details and maps of closures and detours consult the official DOT website.
