Over the past few years, the National Football League has been committed to working on the expansion of this sport around the world. That is why season by season we see more regular season meetings outside the United States.
Germany, Mexico, Brazil and England are the countries that have hosted or will host NFL games soon. In fact, three regular season games will be played in England this year. Two at the Tottenham Stadium and one at the legendary Wembley.
But from British soil it seems that they want to take the interest of the NFL a little further. And recently the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, confessed that he aims to create a proposal to bring the Super Bowl to English soil.
This idea of Khan’s will not be easy to achieve since the Super Bowl is the most watched sporting event in the entire United States. Therefore the most lucrative and loved by fans of this sport.
In a recent interview for The New York Times The English politician assured that with this proposal he will seek to unite British fans more closely with the NFL and so that they can live a unique experience.
“The Super Bowl is really important to us. We have several American football games and I want them to be played here because we want American sports fans in Europe to come to London to watch them and not just go to the United States,” the mayor explained.
Khan appears to be committed to encouraging and attracting the sport to London. He even made it clear that his idea is not only to bring the NFL to the English capital, but also the NBA.
“If I am re-elected we will go even further. “We will try to bring the Super Bowl, WrestleMania and NBA games to London, in addition to preparing another bid for the 2040 Olympic Games,” concluded the mayor of London since 2016.
