The Brazilian Championship resumes this weekend after a two-week suspension due to the floods that hit the south of the country.
According to EFE, the three teams from Rio Grande do Sul, Gremio, Internacional and Juventude, return to the field this Saturday after being affected by heavy rains that left 169 dead, 44 missing and more than 2.3 million people affected in the region.
In addition to the two-day suspension for all clubs, the three Rio Grande do Sul teams already had games postponed since the beginning of May due to the rains. Gremio and Internacional were the most affected, as their stadiums and training centers were flooded.
Gremio will play its home game against Bragantino in Curitiba, 740 kilometers from its home, due to damage to the Gremio Arena.
Gremio arrives with high morale after beating The Strongest 4-0 in the Copa Libertadores, but needs to tie its pending matches with Huachipato and Estudiantes to stay alive in the tournament. Internacional, for its part, seeks to recover after its elimination from the Copa Sudamericana and beat last-place Cuiabá to climb the table.
Flamengo, already qualified for the round of 16 of the Libertadores, has the opportunity to take the lead from Athletico Paranaense if it wins the Rio classic against Vasco da Gama this Sunday. Atlético Mineiro also seeks to get closer to the top if it defeats Bahía.
Defending champions Palmeiras have not had a good start in the league and will be looking for their third win in seven games when they visit Criciúma this Sunday.
