There is a one-dollar coin from 1794 known as “Flowing Hair,” which is the first coin issued by the United States federal government, and is currently worth $10 million.
The emblematic coin of the “loose-haired dollar” bears the bust of Liberty on its obverse, while on the reverse there is an eagle surrounded by a garland.
This design of these pieces was created by Robert Scot, head of the Mint, who was inspired by the Spanish dollar, and was in charge of the most emblematic pieces of those years.
Bruce Morelan, an American businessman who likes to collect coins, paid $10,016,875 for the “flowing hair silver dollar” in 2013.
“This is a dream coin, a priceless artifact that I am proud to own,” Morelan said at the time.
The “Flowing Hair dollar” was manufactured between 1794 and 1795 with 90% silver and 10% copper. Its greatest attraction is based on the few pieces that are available, in addition to some features of its history, marked largely by mystery and captivating numismatic experts.
It is estimated that only 150 to 200 surviving pieces exist, further increasing its value and appeal to collectors.
All over the world there are people who could pay millions of dollars for this currency, which could be stored in a drawer or circulating in someone’s pocket.
There are many other valuable coins that, due to their rarity or errors in their manufacture, reach extraordinary figures, so it doesn’t hurt to get involved in the world of numismatics.
As an example is the “1963 Washington Quarter”, which has a monetary value of $0.25, but its estimated price is from $5 to more than $15,000 dollars.
