A few weeks after being attacked by the French far-right leader, Marion Maréchal-Le-Pen, for her historic victory at the last Cannes Festival for Best Female Performance for the film “Emilia Pérez”, the trans actress Karla Sofía Gascón raised again voice to urge LGBTQ+ communities to denounce attacks against them.
Through her social networks, the Spanish interpreter called to register the data of all those profiles that attack the LGBTQ+ community in order to file complaints.
From here I call on all LGBT associations in any country to take the data of all the profiles and characters who try to harass us and file parallel complaints.”

In the same message, the Spanish artist also pointed out that the economic result of these demands will be used for the development and strengthening of various LGBTQ+ associations, in addition to mentioning that she will not stop defending her work and her identity.
No matter how much you bark, Beelzebub gargoyles, you are not going to be able to blur what I have achieved and what I am going to achieve thanks to the effort and excellence in my work, nor the fact that I am a lady.
After her praised role in the film “Emilia Pérez”, in which she plays the leader of a Mexican cartel who asks for the help of a lawyer to carry out her transition from man to woman, Gascón became the first trans actress in obtaining the most important acting award in the French competition along with her co-stars: Selena Gómez, Zoe Saldaña and Adriana Paz.
However, just a few hours after the award was announced, the actress was attacked, through X, by far-right leader Marion Maréchal-Le-Pen, who mentioned that the award had been obtained “by a man.”
Given this, six civil organizations filed a complaint against the policy for transphobic comments. After filing said lawsuit, Maréchal herself revealed that she would not allow herself to be “intimidated” by these groups.
Until now, and after the recent demand made by LGBTQ+ associations, its development or its possible resolution has not been revealed.
In addition to its triumph in the Best Female Performance category, “Emilia Pérez”, directed by Jacques Audiard, also took the Jury Prize. Meanwhile, the film by American director Sean Baker, “Anora”, became the big winner of the night by winning the Palme d’Or for the 2024 edition.
