The city of London received a yellow tide this Saturday, when more than 100,000 Borussia Dortmund fans arrived in the English capital to witness the Champions League final against Real Madrid.
According to EFE, a large number of German fans have landed in London since Thursday and will be distributed between the Wembley stadium, its surroundings and the official fan zone located in Hyde Park.
Faced with the massive influx of fans, the London Metropolitan Police has deployed an unprecedented security device, with more than 2,000 officers on duty. To reinforce security measures and avoid incidents such as those that occurred in the Euro 2021 final, the collaboration of 400 agents from other regions of the country has been requested.
Commander Louise Puddefoot, in charge of the police operation, said she wanted “that fans visiting London can have a safe and enjoyable experience. There will be a significant police presence, not only at Wembley, but also in the fan zones and at other events. “Anyone who sees something suspicious or is concerned about safety should speak to an officer or member of security.”
Despite the police’s advice not to travel to London without a ticket, thousands of fans, especially Dortmund fans, have arrived in the city in the hope of getting a last minute ticket or simply enjoying the festive atmosphere. The two clubs received an allocation of 25,000 tickets each, while the remaining 40,000 were distributed by UEFA.
To avoid a repeat of the situation at the Euro final, when thousands of people illegally entered the stadium, the English Football Association has invested more than £5 million and will deploy more than 2,500 security guards at Wembley.
An electric atmosphere is expected in London this weekend, with thousands of fans from both teams creating a unique atmosphere in the English capital. Security will be a top priority for the authorities, who hope that the event will take place peacefully and without incident.
