Pachuca of the Liga MX was crowned this Saturday as champion of the Concacaf Champions League (Concachampions) by beating the Columbus Crew of the MLS 3-0 at the Hidalgo Stadium where they live as locals, thanks to a couple of scores from the Venezuelan striker Salomón Rondón.
With a solid and direct match, Pachuca secured its sixth Concachampions title thanks to the work of Rondón, who was a headache for the American defense from the first minutes of the match.
Just after thirteen minutes and with the siege of the Mexicans, the attacker took advantage of a through pass to run between the center backs, finish with Vaseline before the departure of goalkeeper Patrick Schulte and blow up the room.
The happiness almost doubled just seconds later for Pachuca when Rondón gave the ball inside the area to the naturalized Moroccan Oussama Idrissi who made it 2-0, but the goal was invalidated a minute later when the main player of the match because in his opinion Rondón fouled French defender Rudy Camacho.
However, shortly after half an hour, the dominance that Pachuca had shown on the field of play was once again present on the scoreboard thanks to a counterattack capitalized by Emilio Rodríguez to take another step in search of the Cup.
Although Columbus Crew tried to advance lines in search of the result, it was Pachuca who continued to dominate the game and almost got the third through the insistent Rondón, who finished at the beginning of the second half and the ball was cleared at the goal line by Schulte in a slap of Last moment.
But as football always gives revenge, in the 65th minute an attack on the left wing culminated in a cross that Rondón received inside the area and without thinking he turned on his axis and took a shot close to the post that meant 3-0 and the title against a Columbus Crew that was overwhelmed and that in the final minutes dedicated itself to defending itself to avoid a greater defeat.
Rondón’s two goals not only gave Pachuca the Concachampions title but also helped him become the competition’s top scorer, scoring nine goals and surpassing Alejandro Zendejas (América) who scored five times.
