Carlo Ancelotti, Italian coach of Real Madrid, stated that they give the season a “ten” after winning the Spanish Super Cup, the Spanish League and the Champions League.

“You know I don’t like giving myself grades, but we give ourselves a ten. We have managed ten. The team and my players have been spectacular,” Ancelotti explained at a press conference.

“This season we have had a lot of problems. We have made up for this with collective sacrifice. This is what happened today. This Champions League is won with sacrifice and quality. One is not enough. This squad leaves me very satisfied, because we don’t always play at our best, but we never give up. We always fight. In the locker room at the end of the first half, we were pretty calm. The players have spoken, we have discussed the system change together. I have not made the decision alone. They agreed and we have done it.”

Ancelotti commented on the change in system after the first half, changing from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3, with which they dismantled the Germans in the second half.

“The danger of not winning it was real. Borussia is a very uncomfortable opponent and has played better than us.”

“At half-time I didn’t need to get angry, just clear things up. It was clear how he wanted to play Dortmund, with transitions. They have done very well and we lacked balance to handle this. Once this was fixed, changing the system was better for us. Give more concentration in the center of the field. The attitude has also been better in the second half.”

The Italian was “grateful” to Toni Kroos, in his last game against Real Madrid, and urged him not to leave him now.

“I’m obviously grateful, it ended on a high. You can’t finish higher. He is very happy. He has been a legend of this club. All Madrid fans thank him for what he has done. He has never missed a day in these ten years that he has played for Real Madrid. I have told him that we hope he changes his mind,” explained the coach born in Reggiolo and who turns 65 on June 10.
