The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, assured this Saturday after his team won its 15th European Cup that the intention is for his team not to stop because after the victory all that remains is to begin the path to the 16th title.
In statements after the match and the celebration, Pérez congratulated his Real Madrid players one by one and later spoke with the media about what the feat was and how important it is to continue on the path to victory.
“I am excited to see all the fans here and in the world. That counts, they carry the players to victory. We didn’t have a good first half, but we said “now” and I didn’t doubt our victory. This is the starting point to try to win the sixteenth. It is the story of Real Madrid. We are very happy, we have also won the League and I am sure the fans are very satisfied. They are all friends, great atmosphere in the locker room, there are no problems because they don’t give them,” he said.
He later recalled that although the Merengues are leaders in UEFA Champions League honors, he believes that it is not easy to win not only the title this season but also that it is the sixth in the last 11 years.
“We are very happy because winning a Champions League is not easy. Madrid in this competition has a lifelong love story between the Champions League and Real Madrid that everyone knows. He becomes more motivated, grows, fights and in the end we are worthy winners of this cup,” he added.
He also spoke about the German Toni Kroos, who played his last game with the Real Madrid shirt: “It’s what he wanted, to retire at the top. He has achieved it. He is a player who without any doubt is one of the legends of Real Madrid. We are very happy”.
Additionally, he spoke about how difficult it was to manage the squad in the 2023-2024 season, taking into account the serious injuries suffered by several players and that despite this they remained firm and without signings.
“We had two cruciate (ruptured ligaments), that of Militao and that of Courtois. And then Alaba’s. We have had many injuries. But Courtois, with great effort, has managed to reach the end. Play good games and we are very happy. We can’t say anything more. Thanks to the work of all of them and the efforts of the injured, we have won a European Cup,” he commented.
Finally, he referred to the possible signing of Frenchman Kylian Mbappé: “Today is the day to congratulate all the players who have managed to win the European Cup and not to talk about other players who are not on another team,” he concluded.
