In the last few hours, Conmebol reported that in the next Copa América it will launch a “Match Monitoring Group” with the objective of “safeguarding the integrity of the tournament against the threat of match-fixing.”

This announcement was made within the framework of work that is also linked to other world organizations such as FIFA, UEFA and even the FBI.

The final focus of this task is to promote “transparency and equity in South American football.”

“The Match Monitoring Group reflects the interdisciplinary work and cooperation between different international actors, such as FIFA, UEFA, the Council of Europe, the Copenhagen Group, UNODC, FBI, INTERPOL, ULIS, Sportradar, IBIA, and Officials of Integrity of the Member Associations of CONMEBOL and Concacaf,” reported the continent’s highest organization in a statement after a conclave that had the city of Luque, in Paraguay, as one of its epicenters.

“In our work at Conmebol we have a concrete and permanent objective: to offer the greatest transparency on and off the field. Our mission is to ensure sporting justice, so that our matches and tournaments are attractive and competitive. “We are focused on deploying all the necessary tools to meet these goals and the Conmebol Copa América 2024 Match Monitoring Group is part of this vision, which we share with several important allied organizations,” said the president of the entity that regulates La Liga football. region, Alejandro Domínguez.

This group, which was created as part of the commitment to its “Clear Rules” approach, will pay particular attention to the 32 games that will be played in 14 different stadiums across the United States: it will seek to assess risks and analyze the data and information collected, through coordinated collaboration.

“The objective of the Monitoring Group is to safeguard the integrity of the tournament, acting with determination to detect and address any concerns related to match-fixing, ensuring a fair and entertaining competition for all fans,” they highlighted, highlighting that they seek to “ensure that every match is played with integrity” and thus promotes “the spirit of fair and transparent play.”

The maximum continental tournament will once again be organized in the United States as in 2016 and will feature the ten Conmebol teams, plus six other Concacaf guests, which in this case will be the United States, Mexico, Jamaica, Panama, Canada and Costa Rica.

The competition will open next Thursday, June 20 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the city of Atlanta with the clash between the defending champion, Argentina, against Canada, corresponding to Group A. The grand final will be held on Sunday, July 14 in Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
