The soccer teams of Peru and Paraguay tied this Friday in Lima 0-0 in a cold test match for the Copa América in the United States that will begin on June 20.

The Monumental de Ate Stadium in the Peruvian capital was full in the stands to witness the head-to-head between those led by the Uruguayan Jorge Fossati and those of the Argentine Daniel Garnero.

It was a match with no margin for superiority, although there were more attempts by the visitors to finish at the Blanquirroja goal.

The first part presented a give and take.

The main reference of the Albirroja team, Miguel Almirón, from the English Newcastle, showed at times clarity to lead the threads.

Fossati gave minutes to José ‘el Tunche’ Rivera, Universitario de Deportes’ top scorer and, in the end, he opted for the references to seek victory, although without luck.

The Paraguayan defense was rocky and on the counterattack the visitors threatened Pedro Gallese’s goal.

In an extreme option, Gallese abandoned his goal and went almost to the middle of the field to push and get his teammates into the Paraguay area.

In the 92nd minute, midfielder Edison Flores was about to seal the victory for the Blanquirroja with a powerful shot from distance.

This was the Peruvian team’s last game in its territory before traveling to the United States, where on June 14 it will close its preparation with a friendly against the El Salvador team in Pennsylvania.

The Paraguay team will end its preparation with a match against Chile in Santiago on the 11th.

Peru will debut in the Copa América on June 21 against Chile and Paraguay three days later with Colombia.
