The case of Senator Bob Menéndez has an important new piece of information, after the testimony of a New Jersey businessman, who took the stand on Friday, June 7, to assure the jury that he had bribed the Democratic politician.

José Uribe is collaborating with authorities after he pleaded guilty in March in this case. He described it this way NBC News.

The businessman is accused of having conspired with his colleague Wael Hana. In the statement he indicated that the senator and his wife Nadine Menéndez accepted the bribes of $200,000 dollars and $250,000 dollars that they would have been paid.

But why did they cancel that money?

Basically, according to Uribe’s statement, to keep a criminal investigation by the New Jersey state attorney general’s office into his associates at bay.

Thanks to the alleged bribes they gave, Menéndez would have called the then attorney general of New Jersey, Gurbir Grewal, to address the situation.

In this case, in addition to Uribe and Hana, a third businessman is involved, identified as Fred Daibes, who has pleaded innocent.

What did Bob Menéndez say?

The US senator, who has also been accused of receiving bribes from the Egyptian government, has denied the allegations and recently assured that “the truth” will come to light next Wednesday, when the trial against him continues.

Among the benefits that he and his wife would have received would be gold bars, cash and a luxury vehicle.

Nadine Menéndez will also be tried. However, they postponed the hearing that was scheduled for June 12.

Her lawyer Barry Coburn said the woman is suffering from “intense and chronic” pain from invasive cancer surgery. Due to this situation, it will probably be done in July.

The case of Bob Menéndez has increased interest, because on Monday he announced that he will seek re-election in his position in the November 5 elections in the United States. All this despite the scandal in which he has been involved.
