Lionel Scaloni, coach of the Argentine national team, spoke at a press conference ahead of this Sunday’s friendly against Ecuador at the Soldier Field Stadium in Chicago, in one of the preparatory matches for the Copa América.

Scaloni set off the alarm because he did not confirm Lionel Messi as a starter, although he assured that he will have minutes: “I imagine that Leo will play, I don’t know how many minutes, but people will see it, which is the most important thing.”

In this sense, he pointed out that he has not yet defined the training: “I still do not have the team 100%. Especially because I have to evaluate the changes. We have asked to be able to make more than six changes and, in the end, it will not be like that. We must evaluate the six changes we have to make. Based on that, we will define the team.”

Messi joined the Argentina national team’s training sessions after starting Inter Miami’s 3-3 draw against St. Louis City in Major League Soccer (MLS).

Days ago, he repeated his presence from the beginning in the 3-1 defeat against Atlanta United. Both matches were separated by three days and the Astro could avoid further wear and tear at the beginning of the FIFA date.

The Argentina team has another friendly ahead, on Friday the 14th against Guatemala, just six days before the premiere in the continental event against Canada.

Regarding the preparation of the lineup, Lionel Scaloni explained: “In recent times, this team has had changes and has maintained the level. We are not worried about that, we will try not to risk the kids who come with any problems. We are not going to risk them at all, it is evident. Some are not even going to have minutes and are not even going to go to the bench because we believe that it is better that they continue training and continue putting loads on their legs.”
