At least 10 people were injured in a shooting during a late-night party on the rooftop of an apartment building in Madison, Wisconsin, during the early hours of this Sunday, local authorities reported, seeking to determine the extent of the victims’ injuries. who were hospitalized.

The events occurred shortly before 1:00 a.m. Sunday, during what police believe may have been a high school graduation party. The rescuers climbed to the top of the building where the party took place to treat the victims.

The ages of the injured were between 14 and 23 years old; However, not all suffered gunshot wounds, but were transported to local hospitals.

“We now know that we have multiple victims in area hospitals and we are working to determine the extent of those injuries. But none of those injuries at this time appear to be life-threatening, which is certainly fortunate for such a chaotic scene,” said Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes.

The Madison Fire Department transported five people with gunshot wounds to the hospital by ambulance, while several victims reported to the hospital on their own. Four ambulances and two engine companies helped triage, treat and transport patients at the scene.

“I was lying in my bed, in my house… and I heard siren after siren, go by and echo through the neighborhood, and I would never have imagined that it was something as horrible as what I heard, that it was potentially the case, that it was a mass shooting. “I was absolutely horrified and the sirens didn’t stop,” said Councilman Mike Verveer, who represents downtown on the Madison Common Council, adding that several law enforcement agencies were in the area when he arrived.

At the moment, the police continue with the investigation and so far no arrests have been made.
