69% of Americans say they dream of one day owning a vacation home. While typical waterfront home prices may make this aspiration seem out of reach, Realtor.com just released its list of America’s most affordable beach towns, where homebuyers can purchase a life next to the beach without having to spend a lot of money.

In ranking order, America’s most affordable coastal cities include:

  • Pascagoula, Mississippi – Median List Price*: $164,900
  • Atlantic City, New Jersey – Median List Price*: $239,000
  • Deerfield Beach, Florida – Median List Price*: $239,950
  • Dennis Port, Mass. – Median list price*: $277,500
  • Myrtle Beach, SC – Median List Price*: $299,500
  • Corpus Christi, Texas – Median List Price*: $315,000
  • Sunset Beach, North Carolina – Median List Price*: $340,000
  • Grand Isle, Louisiana – Median List Price*: $375,000
  • Newport, Oregon – Median List Price*: $399,950
  • Ocean Shores, Washington – Median List Price*: $425,000

“Water lovers on a budget may want to visit No. 1-ranked Pascagoula, Mississippi. It is located on two major waterways: the Gulf of Mexico and the Pascagoula River and offers many fun outdoor activities, from fishing off the pier to kayaking on its barrier-free river system, to an annual summer music festival,” said Realtor.com reporter Keith Griffith.

“Pascagoula is also home to Chevron’s largest refinery and Ingalls Shipbuilding, which is Mississippi’s largest manufacturing employer, indicating the great mix of work and play that makes the coastal city an attractive place to live,” Griffith added.

More than 80% of Americans have been on vacation in the past five years and more than a third enjoy looking at real estate listings while on vacation. While not every vacation ends at the beach, 56% of Americans find their ideal vacation home next to one, and this year’s list of affordable coastal cities offers them a mix of coastal living with access to a public beach. of sand in the ocean, adequate inventory and median listing prices for affordable homes.

A sea of ​​options and locations

All of the cities represented on this year’s Most Affordable Coastal Cities list have median home listing prices under $450,000, with options spread across the country.

The coastal towns that made the ranking this year offer prospective buyers a number of options including many condominiums, which are generally priced lower than single-family homes and contributed to the lower median listing prices.
