Undefeated David Benavidez (28-0), who is considered a major threat to Canelo Alvarez at super middleweight, will move up to light heavyweight to face Oleksandr Gvozdyk (20-1) this Saturday, June 15 in a crucial title fight WBC interim world championship. The fight will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and will be part of the main card of the Gervonta Davis vs. Frank Martin.

Benavidez, who has won three fights for the WBC interim super middleweight belt between 2022 and 2023, is looking to establish himself as a legitimate contender in the light heavyweight division and hopes to use this fight as a springboard for a possible opportunity against the winner of the fight between Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev at the end of this year.

Gvozdyk, a London 2012 Olympic silver medalist and former WBC light heavyweight world champion, is looking to return to the top of boxing after a devastating knockout loss to Beterbiev in 2019. This will be his first fight since his return to the ring in 2023 and a win over Benavidez would put him in good position for future title opportunities.

The fight can be seen in Latin America on ESPN and Star+, while in the United States it can be seen on the Prime Video PPV. It is not yet known who will broadcast it in Spain.

Here are some additional details about the fight:

  • Date: Saturday June 15
  • Main card start time: 6:00 p.m. CDMX, 8:00 p.m. Eastern United States.
  • Approximate time of the fight Benavidez vs. Gvozdyk: 8:00 p.m. CDMX, 10:00 p.m. Eastern United States.
  • Location: MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada
  • Broadcast: ESPN and Star+ (Latin America), Prime Video PPV (United States)

This is an important fight for both fighters, and the winner could have great opportunities in the future. Benavidez looks to establish himself as one of boxing’s biggest stars, while Gvozdyk looks to return to the top of the sport after a tough loss.
