Real Madrid officially confirmed its participation in the new format of the Club World Cup to be held in the 2024/2025 season.
“Real Madrid CF announces that at no time has its participation in the new Club World Cup to be organized by FIFA in the next 2024/2025 season been questioned. Therefore, our club will compete, as planned, in this official competition that we face with pride and with the utmost enthusiasm to make our millions of fans around the world dream again with a new title,” the club published on its website. This confirmation comes after statements from coach Carlo Ancelotti, who in an interview suggested that the team might not participate. However, both the club and Ancelotti himself have clarified that these words were misinterpreted and that Real Madrid is committed to the tournament.
“FIFA can forget, the players and clubs will not participate in that tournament. A single Real Madrid match is worth 20 million and FIFA wants to give us that amount for the entire cup. Negative. Like us, other clubs will reject the invitation,” he said in an interview with ‘Il Giornale’ about the tournament.
The new Club World Cup format will feature 32 teams from the six continental confederations and will be held from June 15 to July 13, 2025.
