Cinamon Charmaine Rigmaiden, a 31-year-old woman from Michigan, faces serious charges after allegedly setting fire to her ex-boyfriend’s home, resulting in the death of the man’s disabled mother and injuries to two more people. The incident occurred on Monday, June 3, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

Rigmaiden is charged with murder, assault with intent to murder and arson following the fatal fire at the building in the 6000 block of Seminole Street in Detroit, according to Law&Crime.

Prosecutors detailed that Rigmaiden sprayed an accelerant on the front porch before setting the house on fire. When firefighters arrived, they found Tina Dorrough, 53, deceased inside.

Two survivors, a 57-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman, were taken to a local hospital with injuries. Police confirmed that Rigmaiden’s ex-boyfriend was not at the residence at the time of the fire.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy strongly condemned the crime, calling it “reprehensible.” Worthy wondered how a breakup could lead someone to such an extreme action as setting fire to an occupied house.

“Your house is on fire.”

During the bail hearing, Deputy Prosecutor Teana Livingston explained that Rigmaiden wanted her ex-boyfriend to “feel her pain.” Reports cited by Law & Crime indicate that Rigmaiden used gasoline to set fire to a couch on the porch and then sent a text message to her ex-boyfriend saying, “Your house is on fire.”

Dorrough’s uncle’s fiancé managed to escape by jumping from a second-story window. Dorrough’s uncle had to leave the house, leaving behind his disabled sister, who was unable to escape and died in the fire. Prosecutors said that after setting the fire, Rigmaiden went to a McDonald’s and then bought cocaine.

Rigmaiden’s defense attorney argued that she was only trying to cause property damage and thought the house was empty. However, prosecutors refuted this claim, alleging that Rigmaiden knew that her ex-boyfriend’s disabled mother was at her residence.

A judge decided that Rigmaiden remains detained without bail, facing multiple charges for this tragic incident.
