Cafú, Copa América champion with Brazil in 1997 and 1999, was confident in the Brazilian team’s chances of winning the continental title in the 2024 Copa América that will be played in the United States starting on June 20.
“In this Copa América, he is fully expected. Brazil, where it arrives, arrives to be champion. The expectation is that Brazil will be one of the protagonists of the Copa América, with full conditions to win this Copa América. “Argentina is the last world champion, that is why it is one of the favorites, but today I see Brazil even more favorite than Argentina to win this Copa América,” Cafú told EFE.
The former player highlighted the importance that Vinicius Jr. will have in the Brazilian scheme, considering him the leader of the team. “I see Vinicius as one of the key players who must take responsibility. I already see him in that leadership role,” he noted.
Cafú, who also declared himself an admirer of Lionel Messi, did not rule out a possible final between Brazil and Argentina in Miami on July 14.
“We are fans of the maestro (Messi), right? We are. We are fans of great players, even though we are Brazilians. Watching the maestro play is fantastic, even though he is in the United States, he is used to it, he is in his natural habitat playing football. It’s going to be great to see Argentina playing, maybe in a final against Brazil. “People go to this Copa América to see these world soccer powers together again,” added the former soccer player.
Cafú sees Brazil as the main favorite to win the Copa América, with Vinicius Jr. as a key figure and a possible final against Argentina on the horizon. The Brazilian team will debut in the Copa América on June 24 against Costa Rica, a team with which it shares group D along with Paraguay and Colombia.
