The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) published the first in a series of memos on the policies that former President Donald Trump intends to promote, but there is a legal and legislative route to confront them.

“If given a second term, Donald Trump promises to decimate American communities by attacking immigrants who are already contributors to society, in addition to blocking the entry of new immigrants to come legally to the United States,” the ACLU document begins.

Titled “Trump on immigration. Destroying immigrant families, communities, and the social fabric of our nation,” the document sets out legal, legislative, and government options that could help reduce the impact of Republican policies.

“Trump has made it clear that he will double down on what he did during his presidency, without respect for the law, decency or common sense,” the ACLU warns. “In fact, Trump has promised to be much more aggressive in a second term.”

There are 175 immigration actions that Trump intends to promote through Project 2025, civil rights experts warn.

Among others, Trump has promised mass arrests and deportations, ending birthright citizenship, continuing the border wall, among other policies.

Maribel Hernéndez Rivera, director of Policy, Government Affairs, Borders and Immigration at the ACLU, explains in the podcast “El Diario Sin Límites” why Trump’s immigration plans should be of concern and how to counteract them.

“The 2025 project […] There they really have the entire list of all the things that the Trump Administration has said and has promised that it will do in a second administration,” said Hernández Rivera.
