In recent days, Lionel Messi has given something to talk about due to the number of interviews he has offered. With less than 72 hours until the start of the Copa América 2024, La Pulga confessed what was the worst moment of his career in this competition.

In an interview for the podcast Distados a Todos, in which he participated with his nephew Tomás Messi, the Inter Miami star recalled that he had a very bad time in the 2011 Copa América that was played in Argentina.

For that competition, Messi arrived in his prime, having won a sextet with Pep Guardiola’s FC Barcelona. However, the criticism against 10 was relentless. The fans claimed that the attacker “was a cold chest” and played well only with his team.

“I don’t remember any particular insult, but I do remember that in the 2011 Copa América in Argentina, when we played in Santa Fe, they told me everything. To me and the entire team. It was quite hard. “I pute *** of all colors,” he recalled.

In that Copa América, the albiceleste showed a very low level. The first match debuted with a goalless draw against Bolivia. For the second match against Colombia she also had to suffer, although she managed to draw 1-1. The third match of the group stage was against the Costa Rica Under-22 team.

There, the Argentines scored 3-0. They ranked second with five points. After Colombia (7). However, the illusion would not last long and in the quarterfinals they tied 1-1 with Uruguay, but lost 4-5 on penalties.

Now, the panorama is different, since they arrive as champions of America and the World. Argentina will debut at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta this Thursday, June 20, against Canada in the first match of Group A.
