The historic Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez assured that he has a lot to thank the American promoter Don King by ensuring that he was one of the main people responsible for propelling him to the great star he is today; Despite this, he also maintained that he has a lot to complain about for having stolen an impressive amount of millions of dollars that he earned in his career as a professional.

These statements were made by the man from Guadalajara during an interview offered on the ‘Latin Lover’ podcast when talking about the promoters who supported him the most to achieve success. Chávez highlighted that Don King was the one who was always by his side to take him to the top because because he was one of the most important promoters of the time.

“If I have to thank him it is Don King. Even though the old pinch* has stolen millions and millions of dollars from me,” said the legendary Aztec fighter who was proclaimed champion in three divisions to be one of the highest paid in the world due to the ability he had to achieve victories.

“If I had received pay per view when I was fighting… I would sell a million or a million and a half houses. Don King told me ‘you’re going to win three million dollars the other fight’ and I told him ‘give me five or six and I don’t want pay per view,’ added the fighter.

Finally, Julio César Chávez stressed that he did not know at that time all the impressive sum of money that he lost because Don King paid him exclusively with the box office and the rest of the money obtained in the fight was his.

“Because of stupidity, because I didn’t know, I didn’t know. He paid me with the pure box office, that’s why he told me ‘I love you, Julio, I love you. He deserved much more. The most I ever won in a single fight was 10 million dollars, two or three times,” the Aztec fighter concluded by revealing the reasons why he did not ask for money from the PPV; He also recalled that the most he earned on three occasions was a total of $10 million dollars.
