Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg contributed $20 million to President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign, strengthening his position ahead of the first televised debate against former President Donald Trump.

Known for his considerable financial influence in politics, he channeled his donation through the Future Forward and Biden Victory Fund organizations, according to Washington Post.

“I endorsed Joe Biden in 2020 and I am proud to do so again,” declared the former mayor of New York in a statement sent to the American newspaper.

Michael Bloomberg, who was mayor of New York from 2002 to 2013, began his political career as a Republican. But then he became independent and, in recent years, he has established himself as one of the main donors to the Democratic Party, Efe reported.

His significant contribution comes at a defining moment as Joe Biden and Donald Trump prepare for their first televised face-to-face on June 27 in Atlanta, which CNN will broadcast.

The Open Secrets organization points out that Biden’s re-election campaign has raised about $305 million dollars, while Trump’s, who is seeking to return to the White House, has accumulated $243 million dollars.

Timothy Mellon donated $50 million to Donald Trump’s campaign

On the other hand, billionaire Timothy Mellon contributed $50 million to Donald Trump’s campaign, as revealed The New York Times.

This donation was made a day after the Republican was found guilty of 34 crimes for falsifying business records to buy the silence of a porn actress in a New York court.

Mellon’s contribution, earmarked for the Make America Great Again organization, represents a large portion of the nearly $70 million raised in May and seeks to reduce the financial lead that Joe Biden has maintained so far.
