New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton, who had been regaining his best physical condition in 2024 compared to the last three seasons, was included this Saturday on the 10-day disabled list and it is unknown when he will be able to return to action.
Stanton began to have problems with his hamstring, an injury he has suffered previously, and which is presumed to have been suffered during the second game of the Yankees’ series against the Atlanta Braves, for which he was forced to leave the game.
Apparently, during this Saturday’s clash, the powerful slugger was running between third base and home plate after being driven by a double by Gleyber Torres when he felt a strain on the left side of his back, which forced him to leave the game.
Thanks to his injury, Stanton is frustrated in his opportunity to continue performing for the Yankees after a slow start.
So far this season, Stanton had participated in 69 of the Yankees’ 79 games, managing to average .246 and achieving 18 home runs and 45 RBIs, being key to the start of the Mules and the 52 victories they currently accumulate, which gives them has allowed them to lead the East division of the American League with 1.5 games ahead of the Baltimore Orioles.
Regarding the roster movement after Stanton’s departure, the Yankees decided to add Venezuelan shortstop Oswald Peraza, who was promoted from the Triple-A branch.
It is expected that in the next few hours Stanton will undergo an MRI that can provide more information about the extent of the injury and the time the author of 420 home runs in the Major Leagues will be out.
