President Joe Biden and his campaign team have decided to take an offensive stance against former President Donald Trump in the debate on June 27. According to a memo obtained by EFE, the strategy will focus on attacking the Republican for his anti-abortion positions, his threat to democracy and his economic proposals that could cut taxes and benefits such as Medicare.
Michael Tyler, Communications Director of the Biden-Harris 2024 Campaign, indicated: “Over the last month, leading up to the debate, our campaign has been dedicated to highlighting the difference between the two visions that will be in front of the American people on stage.” .
Biden is preparing intensely for the debate, spending the weekend at Camp David. His team has outlined a series of critical points to attack Trump. Among them, they will highlight the criminal trial in New York where Trump was found guilty of falsifying documents to hide payments to a porn actress during the 2016 elections, according to EFE.
The campaign memo notes that Trump “will take the stage as a convicted felon fighting for himself no matter how much harm he inflicts on the American people.”
In an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Biden campaign co-chairman Mitch Landrieu stated:
“It doesn’t really matter how Donald Trump presents himself if he comes in unhinged, as he is most of the time, or sits there and stays quiet. People will know that he is a felon convicted of two impeachments and who was found to have defamed someone, sexually abused someone and declared bankruptcy six times.”
Criticism of Trump’s management
Biden will also attack Trump for being “the architect” of the conservative-dominated Supreme Court’s decision that eliminated federal protections for abortion rights. In addition, topics such as the threat to in vitro fertilization and access to contraceptive methods will be addressed.
“Donald Trump wakes up every day thinking about himself, thinking about his rich friends and then really thinking about ways to hurt people with the power he would have if he were president of the United States again,” Landrieu said Sunday, according to NBC News, adding: “And I think the president wants to be very clear about the difference between those two.”
The president, EFE revealed, also plans to criticize Trump for his attempts to punish his enemies, silence his opponents and incite chaos, division and violence, the news agency highlights.
Biden’s campaign aims to highlight the consequences of a possible Trump return to power, especially in terms of democratic stability and individual rights.
On the other hand, he plans to take advantage of this unique opportunity to mobilize voters in key states, focusing on young people, women, Hispanics and African Americans. These groups are crucial for Biden to win re-election in November.
However, the Democratic president’s campaign will not be limited to the debate, according to the agency. He is planning a series of events and activities to capture votes in the days before and after the debate.
In addition, they will invest heavily in ads in traditional and digital media to amplify their messages against Trump, who leads the polls in some key states.
