New York City will still be hot, but it won’t be as sweltering as it has been this past week.
After five days in a row with temperatures high above 90° F, the heat wave will decrease slightly this coming Monday, meteorologists explained.
Temperatures on Sunday “are expected to be around 92° F, and then on Monday we are back to around 80° F,” said Fox News meteorologist Cody Braud.
“A heat wave consists of at least three consecutive days of a high temperature of at least 90 degrees,” Braud explained, adding that the 12-day high temperature in 1953 holds the local record.
“We’ll call this a baby heat wave,” he said. Although he also warned that next week will still be hot, but not as hot, the New York Post reported.
“Although the heat advisory does not go into effect next week, our highs range from the mid to upper 90s F to the upper 80s F. It will still be pretty hot,” said Dax Clark, FOX weather producer.
Additionally, there could be storms on Sunday, which could cool down the Big Apple a bit during the first official weekend of the summer season.
In this sense, Long Island’s beaches could be cooler than Manhattan apartments and subways.
“Not all of Long Island is under a heat advisory. For example, in Montauk, the high is only 75° F,” Clark said.
“But parts of the Jersey Shore are actually under excessive heat warnings.”
