Vice President Kamala Harris slammed former President Donald Trump for his comments that his recent accusations and convictions make him more attractive to Black voters.

“I was impeached for nothing, for something that is nothing,” Trump said earlier this year, according to The Hill. “And a lot of people said that’s why black people like me, because they’ve been so hurt and discriminated against, and they actually saw me as if they were being discriminated against.”

Likewise, the former president has said that if he were racist, his “black friends” would not be with him and would warn him.

“I have so many black friends that if I were racist, they wouldn’t be friends; “They would know it better than anyone and quickly,” Trump said. “You wouldn’t be with me for two minutes if you thought I was racist, and I’m not!”

In an interview with MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski on “Morning Joe,” Vice President Harris asserted that all of Trump’s comments were “insulting.”

“It’s insulting for a number of reasons, including having reduced the entire population of people to a sum total of what they think they are,” Harris said, according to a transcript of the interview from The Hill. “And he is wrong. And he is wrong.”

The vice president rejected Trump’s comments amid Biden’s re-election campaign’s efforts to mobilize African-American voters. If the election were held today, about 20% of black men would vote for the presumptive Republican nominee, according to a recent Pew Research Center survey.

In a statement last May, the Biden and Harris team reported the beginning of the ‘Black Voters for Biden-Harris’ campaign, which will last all summer and will have “an eight-figure investment” at the national level in all the key states to reach “the backbone of the Biden-Harris coalition: black voters.”
