The owner of a sneaker store was fatally shot on Tuesday on a block in SoHo, Manhattan, where there are numerous luxury stores, during what appeared to have been a botched robbery, the New York Police Department (NYPD) and sources reported. .
The victim was identified as Javier Osorio Mejía, 31, who was fatally shot in the right thigh on Grenne Street, near Broome Street, just outside a luxury men’s fashion store Stone Island, police sources explained. Hispanic friends.
Osorio Mejía was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead as he did not survive his injuries, officials said.
Detectives believe the Hispanic man could have been the victim of a robbery that went wrong, police sources say.
His luxurious white Range Rover truck could be seen at the scene, separated with NYPD tape.
A group of heartbroken friends identified him as a big-time shoe reseller about to sign a lease on a new store in New York City.
“He was a great guy. “He wasn’t involved in anything crazy to get shot,” said a friend who only gave his name, Andre.
“He wasn’t involved in any crazy scams or drugs,” Andre added.
“I sold sneakers and clothes,” he said, noting that Osorio Mejía’s other store, Vault 134, on Orchard Street, recently closed. “It just doesn’t make sense.”
The friend said the victim was a loving father with a little girl who was just two years old.
“Great father. He was just at the Jersey Shore celebrating his baby’s birthday,” the friend said.
So far no arrests have been made and inquiries into the case remain ongoing, NYPD said hours after the fatal shooting.
