A small error in some pennies issued in 2023 has caused their value to skyrocket, selling for up to $600.

According to the Instagram account CoinHubs, a bug in some penny coins has caused them to sell for up to 60,000 times their face value.

On all one-cent coins, next to the base of Abraham Lincoln, you can see the initials of the coin’s designer, VDB.

However, on some 2023 coins, an additional “V” appears next to the initials “VDB”.

This mistake is what has led people to pay considerable sums for these coins.

Not only are these 2023 coins valuable. Virtually all pennies issued before 1982 are worth more than one cent, and many of them can fetch thousands of dollars.

Recently, a coin with a duplication error in the letters sold for a record $1.13 million.

Additionally, it’s not just pennies that can be valuable: quarters, dimes, nickels, and other coins can also be worth much more than their face value.

If you find a coin with an error or interesting element that makes it unique, one option is to take it to an auction house to have it evaluated by a numismatic expert.
