The UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Committee has imposed a new fine on the Albanian Football Federation, this time for an amount of 86,500 euros (about $92,647 USD). This is the third financial penalty that the Albanian federation has received during the Euro 2024, due to the behaviour of its fans.
The fine is due to incidents that occurred during the third round of the group stage match against Spain, where some Albanian fans threw objects onto the pitch, sent inappropriate messages, lit flares and, most seriously, one fan even jumped onto the pitch, disrupting the match.
This new sanction is added to the two previous fines that the Albanian federation had already received, for a total of 37,375 euros ($40,031) for the disturbances in the match against Italy and 47,500 euros ($50,875) for the incidents in the match against Italy. Croatia.
In total, the Albanian Football Federation has been fined 171,375 euros ($183,554) over the course of Euro 2024, a considerable figure that reflects the seriousness of the unsportsmanlike behavior of some of its fans.
These types of sanctions serve as a reminder to national federations and their fans of the importance of maintaining exemplary behavior during sporting events, respecting rivals, the referee and the rest of the public.
UEFA has taken strong action in recent years to combat unsportsmanlike behavior in stadiums, and these types of fines are an example of this. It is hoped that these sanctions will serve to deter fans from future inappropriate behavior and to ensure a safe and respectful environment at football matches.
