In a historic match, the Venezuelan team managed to beat its Mexican team 1-0 on the second day of Group B of the Copa América 2024, held in the United States.

This result marks a milestone for Vinotinto, since they had never before defeated Mexico in an official match.

The Venezuelan victory silenced the Mexican press, which in the days prior to the match had underestimated the team led by Fernando “Bocha” Batista. After the result, the headlines of the Mexican media were forced to recognize Venezuela’s superiority.

Newspapers such as Récord, TUDN, ESPN, Mediotiempo, as well as journalists such as Álvaro Morales and David Faitelson, had to reflect their words from the previous match and recognize both the bad moment of the Tri and the superiority of La Vinotinto.

Mexican sports newspaper Record put “Venezuela, I’m your father” on the morning of their Copa America match against Venezuela.

The response? Venezuela won 1-0 and on the front cover today of one of Venezuela’s main sports newspaper Meridiano says “Mexico, here’s your father.” pic.twitter.com/5g29EjU52O

Even the Venezuelan goalkeeper Rafael Romo threw a dart at the Aztec press about the underestimation they had with the South American team.

“We are happy because we knew it would be difficult, Mexico is a great team that plays very well. “We have the humility to recognize our rivals, we do not have that arrogance, ignorance of some Mexican journalists who underestimated us, we come here to do the job, to fight for it, to give our best, we take the three very valuable points,” he said. the archer

The winning goal was scored by Salomón Rondón from a penalty in the 57th minute, which allows him to be just one goal away from the team’s record for top scorer in the Copa América.

Mexico’s defeat jeopardizes their qualification for the quarterfinals, since they will have to face Ecuador on the last date of the group stage.

With this historic victory, Venezuela is positioned as one of the favorites to advance to the final stages of the continental tournament.
