Venezuela’s victory against Mexico in the Copa América surprised many and bothered others such as former América player Miguel Layún. Now a commentator on the TUDN network, the former soccer player exploded in the middle of the live broadcast and criticized the celebration of the Vinotinto figures and even dared to describe his victory as “a miracle.”

Vehemently and truly upset, Layún left his analysis behind and let himself be carried away by his emotions to criticize Venezuela, saying that it must know how to win. “It’s okay, you won, a historic victory, celebrate it. Be correct enough to know how to celebrate a victory. You have to know how to lose and you have to know how to win, both sides, neither one nor the other, I agree,” he began.

“That they come to provoke (the Venezuelans), miraculously winning a match 1-0, because they won it miraculously, it’s not that they passed over us, for them to come and stop like they are doing. Go, go to your court, celebrate with your people, celebrate with your teammates and that’s it,” he said.

“Emotions won me over”

Already with the revolutions low and after finishing a long transmission, Miguel Layún went out on his social networks to tone down, acknowledging that he let himself be carried away by emotions and justifying that he is still a rookie commentating on games. “To all of those who accompanied us on the broadcast, it is the first time that emotions have overcome me. Thanks for hanging in there,” he wrote on X.

Thanks for putting up with me 🫣

Venezuela’s triumph, a miracle?

While Mexico dominated the action in the first half and had several chances to open the scoring, Venezuela also had some, such as a goal by Salomón Rondón after half an hour of play. However, everything changed in the second half.

La Vinotinto pressed higher, recovered the ball faster and threw Mexico against their goal. The high pressure took effect and the Venezuelans went ahead thanks to a penalty. From there it was a monologue for Mexico. They had so many chances that it is not explained how they did not manage to tie. An enlightened Rafa Romo was the reason why Venezuela was able to resist and win.
