The president of the United States, Democrat Joe Biden, defended his performance in the debate against his rival for the November elections, former Republican president Donald Trump, and when asked by the press he stated: “I think we did well.”

Biden, who at 81 is the oldest president in US history, had a weak performance in the debate against Trump. On several occasions, he cleared his throat and his voice sounded hoarse and harsher than usual because he has been fighting the flu in recent days, a source familiar with the campaign told EFE.

Concerned Democrats

This action has caused concern within the Democratic Party, with several Democratic sources cited by US media already speaking of “panic” over the president’s actions and even, in some cases, mentioning the need for him to retire.

Asked if he plans to withdraw or if he has any concerns about his performance, Biden responded by attacking Trump. “No. It’s hard to debate a liar. The New York Times pointed out that he lied 26 times,” he said.

Asked if he was sick, Biden admitted that he had a “sore throat.”

Went for waffles after the debate

Biden made the remarks after the debate as he stopped by Waffle House with first lady Jill Biden to pick up food for his campaign staff before heading to North Carolina for a campaign rally tomorrow.

“Will Joe Biden be replaced?” was the big question that permeated the atmosphere after a dark night for the US president in Atlanta, where he clearly lost the first presidential debate against his rival, former Republican president Donald Trump.

Trump avoided awkward questions

Despite having locked himself away for almost a week with his team to prepare for a historic day, he appeared with a hoarse voice, slow, tired and having difficulty finishing some sentences.

Trump, just three years younger, repeated many of the lies that characterize him and avoided answering the moderators’ most uncomfortable questions, but he seemed more restrained than expected and much more energetic than his rival.
