The Brazilian national team has now gone 22 years without winning the World Cup. A tournament that they have been able to lift five times in their history, being the most winners so far in the almost 100 years since the international competition was created.

Their last World Cup was in 2002 in Korea and Japan when they beat Germany in the final. One of the stars of that team and captain was Cafu, who is also considered the best right back in the history of football.

For the legendary Cafú, who also won the World Cup in 1994, there is a serious problem in the Brazilian team and it lies in the league in which several of his teams play. Well, for the former soccer player, the Premier League prevents Brazil from winning the World Cup again.

Cafu argues that in England they praise Brazilian players too much. And this affects them when they play for their national team.

“I’m afraid that the more Brazilians move to the Premier League, the less chance Brazil will have of winning the World Cup,” the former player began in a talk for the As newspaper.

“Imagine being brainwashed by the media every week by saying you are the best in the world, while you are nowhere near the best,” Cafu concluded, blaming the English media for influencing Brazilian players.

On the other hand, Cafu praised the Spanish championship. He says that in La Liga there is more of a winning mentality and that helps the players from his country.

“I prefer La Liga because they have a high mentality of reaching finals and winning them. In La Liga they don’t have the nerve to lie in front of the television cameras about Spanish players or promote them to the world. There they talk about football, not about myths,” concluded the legendary player.

Brazil got off to a bad start in the 2024 Copa América with a goalless draw against Costa Rica. Now, this Friday, they will try to turn things around by facing Paraguay to ensure a place in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
