This Friday the Colombian team overwhelmed Costa Rica with a 3-0 win at the State Farm Stadium in Phoenix for date 2 of group D of the Copa América 2024.

The Colombian team’s goals came from Luis Díaz on a penalty, Davinson Sánchez and Jhon Córdoba to secure their passage to the quarterfinals of the continental tournament.

The match opened the scoring in the 31st minute with Luis Díaz converting from the penalty spot after goalkeeper Patrick Sequeira came out and caused a foul in the area on Córdoba.

Then Sánchez scored the second goal in the 59th minute after connecting with a header from a corner kick. The final blow came just three minutes later after a deep pass from James Rodríguez that left Córdoba hand in hand with the goalkeeper and he defined the cross in an excellent way.

Colombia extends its winning streak and approaches the record

February 1, 2022 is the date on which the Colombian team had its last defeat in an official match. Since then, the eleventh coffee team has played 25 games in a row without knowing what it means to lose.

20 wins and five draws is the record that Colombia has and that currently makes it the team with the longest undefeated streak.

Furthermore, they are now just two games away from reaching their own record. Well, Colombia’s maximum unbeaten streak is 27 games, which it achieved with coach Francisco Maturana between 1993 and 1994.
