Thanks to a new initiative in the Tuscany region of Italy that seeks to attract new residents, up to $32,000 is being offered to those interested in moving there.
A Forbes publication reveals that the “Residenzialità in Montagna 2024” (Residentiality in the Mountains 2024) program is offering grants ranging from €10,000 (about $10,715) to €30,000 (about $32,145) to help interested parties cover the costs of purchasing and renovating a home.
There are 76 cities to choose from with very attractive locations, with the well-known landscapes that we see in different films and that have made millions of tourists fall in love.
The aim of the initiative is to promote repopulation and socio-economic revitalization of mountain areas, which have been affected by decline over the years.
A study by Italy’s Environment Ministry in 2016 found that nearly 2,500 towns were so depopulated they would not survive more than 25 years, and there are also said to be around 6,000 abandoned villages across the country.
Tuscany grants are made to cover up to 50% of the costs associated with purchasing and renovating a home in a city with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants. So it is important to consider that it is not just about buying a property, but transforming it into a permanent residence and not a vacation home.
Applicants must be Italian citizens, EU citizens or non-EU citizens with a long-term residence permit, and must commit to registering as residents in an Italian city.
Interested Americans must obtain a long-term residence permit, of at least 10 years, demonstrating financial stability or an Italian job offer, and align with the program’s goal of encouraging long-term residence and community integration.
Those who want to move have until 1:00 pm (Tuscany local time) on July 27 to apply, so they can visit the official website of the Tuscany region to fill out the forms and learn more details of the initiative.
