An 18-wheeler truck crashed into a vacant home in the city of Mission, Texas, killing the driver. The Mission Police Department, Public Works Department and Fire Department responded during the incident.
According to reports confirmed by Detective Jorge Rodriguez Jr., the home sustained significant damage and was for sale at the time of the accident. The 51-year-old driver, whose identity has not been released, died instantly.
According to footage posted by JR’s Tires and Wheels, the truck exited the highway heading east, crossed the grass median onto a service road, then entered the parking lot of the business and struck a white GMS on its way to the vacant home. A red Fiat was also struck before exiting the highway with one person inside, who survived the crash.
“When we got here, we had an 18-wheeler that had hit a car on the highway before hitting the house,” said Mission Fire Deputy Chief Chris Navarrete. He added that the department was not conducting a rescue mission, but rather a recovery mission, as the victim was under the rubble.
The driver’s family has been notified of his death and an autopsy will be performed after his recovery: “I think an autopsy will be performed on the body. That’s all the information we have for now,” said Rodriguez.
