President Joe Biden’s campaign has shown remarkable financial resilience, raising more than $33 million since Thursday’s contentious debate with Donald Trump.
Biden, 81, has just faced criticism and questions about his performance in the debate. However, despite the challenges, her campaign has managed to attract considerable financial support. According to CNN, half of the donations came from first-time donors in this election cycle.
In an effort to raise funds, Biden spent the last two days in New York and New Jersey. She acknowledged her performance in the debate and reaffirmed her commitment to winning in November.
At a private dinner hosted by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, $3.7 million was raised for Biden’s campaign, the New York Post reported.
Donors play a crucial role in presidential campaigns, which commonly require millions of dollars in personal and television advertising investments across the country, especially in key states.
Influential Democrats continue to support Biden
Some prominent figures in the Democratic Party have downplayed criticism of Biden, describing his debate performance as a “bad night.” These statements have been highlighted by Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
For her part, Democratic Congresswoman and former Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi expressed her support for Joe Biden’s candidacy in an interview with CNN, and focused on the “lies” told by Donald Trump, whom she accused of instigating an insurrection, in reference to the 2021 Capitol Assault. She also asked voters not to judge the presidential candidate in a single debate.
Despite the signs of support for Biden after the debate, NBC recently reported that Pelosi had privately expressed concern about Biden’s viability as a candidate.
