Democratic congresswoman and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, expressed her support for Joe Biden’s candidacy, indicating that the president’s performance in Thursday’s debate was due to a “bad night.”
Through an interview with CNN, Pelosi urged voters not to judge Biden’s presidency based on a single debate. Pelosi’s opinion coincides with that of former President Barack Obama, who stated through his account on X that “bad debate nights” just happen.
Biden, 81, has seen his candidacy weakened after the debate against Trump, in which he appeared physically clumsy and at times hesitant, which has triggered different questions about the Democratic leader’s candidacy.
Pelosi also noted during the interview that not enough is said about the “lies” Trump told during the debate. According to CNN, Trump made more than 30 false claims during the debate, while Biden made 9.
The congresswoman also refuted Trump’s claim that she turned away 10,000 National Guard troops to protect the US Capitol on the day of its assault, January 6, 2021. Pelosi called this claim a lie and accused Trump of inciting an insurrection.
Despite the outpouring of support for Biden after the debate, NBC recently reported that Pelosi had privately expressed concerns about Biden’s viability as a candidate. The president is currently at a family reunion at Camp David, accompanied by his wife, Jill Biden, as well as his children and grandchildren, EFE reported.
