Traveling journalist Gladys Seara experienced a unique view of New York City by flying over it in a doorless helicopter. From above, she enjoyed a stunning panorama of Manhattan’s skyscrapers, the Statue of Liberty and Central Park, iconic sites that capture the vibrant essence of the Big Apple.

“New York City is really beautiful, it has a unique energy. It is a city that inspires you to fulfill your dreams, where you feel that you can achieve the things you want. It is a city where you feel that there is room for everyone,” she said.

The young woman, originally from Venezuela, said in a video she posted on YouTube, in which she shared images of her trip: “It’s so big and there are people from so many parts of the world that, one more, what does it matter? There is room for everyone and to fulfill dreams. That’s what I feel being here in New York.”

What is the process for flying over New York in a helicopter?

Seara explained that before boarding the helicopter, passengers must sign several consents and watch a safety video after checking in. They are then taken to another area for a second check, where they receive a series of detailed instructions.

They are informed that they must leave all their belongings in a locker, carry their phones without covers and cameras without selfie sticks. In addition, changing batteries or memory cards during the flight is not permitted, so it is important to follow all instructions carefully.

The cameras must be attached to special equipment provided by the company, the traveler said. Passengers then go through a safety harness check, which also places their cameras and cell phones on them to prevent the risk of them falling into the void, so they must always be secured around their necks.

The flight route includes views of Liberty Island, Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty, Lower Manhattan, Midtown Manhattan and Central Park. “It’s going to be an unparalleled day,” said the Venezuelan excitedly.

After another security video, the people were taken to a van to be transported to the site where the helicopters are located.

What was your reaction after flying over New York in a helicopter?

After the tour, he described the experience as spectacular and stressed that it is one thing to see New York City from below and another to do so from above in a helicopter.

“I feel super blessed and lucky to have this job, to work with YouTube, to have your support and to be able to see a city like New York from my feet and also from the sky. That was spectacular. My favorite part was when the helicopter turned and did a 360° spin over the Statue of Liberty, it also did it in Manhattan, Central Park, it’s incredible to see how big that park is.”

He said another favorite thing was seeing the Freedom Tower, the main skyscraper of the new World Trade Center complex, built on the site of the Twin Towers, which were destroyed during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

“Seeing that from above, seeing the Memorial. It gives me goosebumps because you say ‘how incredible that there were so many people here that day when that happened’ and those towers are no longer there. Also the density of the city, it is very impressive, and the Statue of Liberty. A day ago I was at the base seeing it (from below) and today I was seeing it (from above). It was a very beautiful experience, totally worth it,” she said.
