A Louisville man won more than $77,000 on a Kentucky Lottery ticket, and he said it was all thanks to his birth date.
On June 7, the man won $77,777 from a scratch-off ticket for the ‘777’ game.
According to lottery officials, she purchased the $5 ticket from a vending machine inside a Kroger store in Hillview, Louisville.
Scanning the ticket’s barcode, he knew immediately that he had won. “I already knew it was a big one,” the lucky player said.
The emotion of the moment
As he scratched the ticket, the excitement grew with each symbol that appeared. “I got to four and five seven-symbols,” he said.
“I thought, ‘This is pretty real!’ Then the last number in the right corner was a seven,” he added.
At first, the man thought he had won $7,777, but when he scratched the back of the ticket, he realized there was an additional $70,000.
“I actually looked at it and said, ‘Oh my God,’” she said. “There was a lady scratching next to me and she asked me, ‘What’s going on?’ And I said, ‘I don’t know if I should say it, but I just won the jackpot with this ticket!’”
Interestingly, the man won the 777 scratch-off jackpot on June 7 and his date of birth is July 7.
“I always felt a little bit inclined toward that ticket because of that,” he said.
Plans for the prize
The winner plans to use his winnings to pay off his truck and make renovations to his home.
After paying the required taxes, the man walked away with a total of $55,999.44.
Additionally, Kroger will receive $777.77 in commission just for selling the winning ticket.
