On Monday night, hours after all the fuss caused by Mexico’s elimination from the 2024 Copa América, news broke that has plunged the Aztec nation and football into mourning. The sister of Cruz Azul defender Carlos Salcedo was murdered.
The news was released on social media thanks to the journalist specialized in events, Carlos Jiménez. Later, the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM) together with local authorities confirmed the fact.
Martha Paola Salcedo was shot in Huixquilucan on Saturday night. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition. She arrived alive, but ended up dying around 9:00 p.m. Initially, the origin of the motive was unknown, but details have now emerged.
What happened?
The soccer player’s sister went out with her son to a circus in Huixquilucan along with one of her assistants. Armed criminals tried to assault her to take her purse and the keys to her vehicle. Salcedo allegedly resisted the robbery and was shot at least twice in front of her son.
She was taken to the Ángeles de Interlomas hospital, but efforts to save her life were unsuccessful and she eventually died. Martha Paola Salcedo, 31, was a television presenter and had a four-year-old son with Uruguayan goalkeeper Nicolás Vikonis.
Paola studied Public Relations and worked as an influencer and presenter of sports programs such as Líderes del Rebaño.
